Chicago Bulls superstar point guard Derrick Rose has had quite his share of hardships in recent years. Suffering consecutive injuries that sidelined him for the past few seasons, he hasn’t been on the court. With that said, Rose was one of the top athletes with major endorsements in the world, a fixture on television even though he was heavily absent on the court. His clean cut humble personality endeared him to fans across the world.
Today, Rose faces his first major off the court issue. An alleged ex-girlfriend of his, who is only being identified as Jane Doe at this point, has accused the NBA star and two of his friends of gang raping her. According to TMZ, the accuser says she dated Rose from 2011 to 2013, during that time she says the star athlete pressured her to masturbate in front of him and allow her to have sex with his friends. All of which she refused.
Things go on to get much hazier.
Rose’s accuser says the two continued to date until August 2013, when Rose and two friends, Ryan Allen and Randall Hampton (who is also Rose’s personal manager), invited her to Rose’s Beverly Hills house. She says there, they slipped a drug into her drink with the aim of raping her.
The plaintiff says she escaped the house with a friend, but later that night, Rose and his friends broke into her apartment and gang raped her while she was incapacitated. She says she remembers only “flashes” of the incident, but can remember the defendants forcibly raping her.
The accuser says she waited years to file the report because she was “ashamed and embarrassed” of the repercussions it would bring to her conservative family.
Without a doubt, this looks to be one of the bigger headlines in the sports world for 2015. Surely, more will develop on the case over time.

Today’s teens have big problems with today’s society. Police shootings, recorded fights and day-to-day killings now take the place of what teens look forward to in the future. One athlete is changing that pattern for teens by helping them achieve for a brighter future.
Last week, it was announced that Cleveland Cavaliers player and NBA All- Star Lebron James is going to provide scholarships for students going to college. James made this announcement to his I Promise program while hosting an estimated 5,000 students and their families at an amusement park. James, a native of Akron, Ohio teamed up with the University of Akron to provide a full ride of tuition and fees for four years to 1,000 students in the program.
Students who apply for the scholarship must have decent grades, and appropriate test scores to qualify for the scholarship. The President of The University of Akron, Scott Scarborough, says that he and the university will join James’ foundation to raise funds to support the foundation. In an interview, James spoke on how it felt to be able to help teens achieve their dreams.
“These students have big dreams,” LeBron said, “and I’m happy to do everything I can to help them get there. They’re going to have to earn it, but I’m excited to see what these kids can accomplish knowing that college is in their futures.”
James is not the only entertainer to recently offer a scholarship program pay for students. R&B singer Tyrese agreed to pay the tuition of a Morehouse student, while rapper Nelly vows to send kids to college for free on the Mike Brown scholarship.

New Rookie will have some tough shoes to fill
Adidas announced yesterday that they have decided to sign Miami heat rookie. The former duke devil put on quite a performance in the NBA Summer League and led the Duke blue devils to a championship so I’m sure that had a bunch to do with the signing. Winslow had a few words after being signed by adidas.
I’m excited to be a part of adidas,” Winslow told adidas. “I loved playing in their basketball shoes at adidas Nations and what they’ve been doing with Kanye and Originals is changing the game. I pride myself in being the best player on the court and having unique style off it and adidas will definitely help me do both.”
He joins a stacked roster already with John Rose, Derrick Rose, Andre Wiggins, James Harden & More. As a huge part of his deal he will be featured in brand campaigns and will have say so on the development on adidas footwear and apparel.

The crop of blue-chip NBA free agents are all off the board, but the league’s most interesting player is still on the market. JR Smith is still available for teams to pick up, yet the NBA veteran and his 500,000+ twitter followers haven’t found a home.
Smith is the biggest name left on the free agent market. Smith opt-ed out of a contract that would have paid him $6.4 million for this upcoming season. The mindset for Smith was to be able to sign somewhere for more then what he would have received this season with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
While players like Enes Kanter and Brandon Knight are taking baths in money, Smith—the erratic long-range threat who helped the Cleveland Cavaliers get to the Finals but also helped them lose it—is still waiting.
Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, believes that Smith could just return to Cleveland for a reduced price.
As for the Cavs and the one and only J.R. Smith, both sides remain hopeful that a deal can be worked out.
— Frank Isola (@FisolaNYDN) July 23, 2015
It seems as if Cleveland is the only team willing to give Smith a contract at this point. Cleveland is way over the cap, but Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report explains that it really wouldn’t hurt the Cavs to bring back Smith.
“That production, if sustainable, isn’t something the Cavs can replace on the market. They’re capped out beyond belief, which means the only way to get a player of Smith’s caliber is to keep the one they already have. Cleveland can exceed the cap to retain Smith because it has his Bird rights.
The tax hit will be immense. But at this point, what’s another few million dollars?”
