Unfortunately, jail time is nothing new when it comes to high profile rappers. Over the weekend, Atlanta rap trio Migos were taken into custody following a concert stop at Georgia Southern University after authorities discovered guns and drugs on their tour bus.
It’s been a rough first few months of the year for rap acts, so let’s recap. Here are 5 other Hip-Hop acts facing charges in the new year.

Only two of them have been granted bail
The Migos—Quavo, Offset and Takeoff–were arrested following a performance at Georgia Southern University on Friday after cops claimed they detected a “very potent smell” of marijuana coming from their vehicles. A subsequent investigation, conducted while the three rappers were performing at the school, produced drugs and firearms, leading to their arrests.
“These discoveries were intensely concerning as the drugs and firearms had been brought to a university sponsored event where over a thousand students were congregated.” Other, yet to be disclosed drugs were also found after a search by authorities.
On Saturday, news broke that the three Migos members would be charged with drug possession; possession of firearms in a school safety zone; and possession of firearms during the commission of a crime, all very serious charges. Since then, two of the rappers–Quavo and Takeoff–have been granted a $10,000 bail, but Offset has been denied the opportunity to post bail. He is a convicted felon, and the judge has denied his release.
We’ll have more on this story as it develops.
One of Atlanta trio Migos’ biggest hit records is called “Fight Night” and lately, their shows have unfortunately mirrored that title far too often. There was that time Migos member Quavos lunged off stage to land a punch at a concert goer, and today, things took a much more violent turn.
TMZ has obtained footage of the Migos concert last night–which took place in Albany, New York–and in it, a chaotic scene ensues during which multiple people were stabbed. Where and when the stabbing took place isn’t clear from the footage, but something tells us it has something to do with a whole table being thrown from side of the venue to the other in the middle of a performance of “Wishy Washy.”
Thankfully, none of the stabbing victims sustained fatal injuries.

Handsome and frugal
Yesterday, Migos–Atlanta’s trap extraordinaires–uploaded a picture of themselves alongside their Quality Control Music labelmate OG Maco and a huge check for the amount of $1,000 which they donated to their old high school, Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta. The internet exploded with criticism, pointing out the fact that–among several other things–Quavo, Takeoff and Offset, the three aMigos, showed up in undoubtedly three times that amount in jewelry. Naturally, Twitter had a field day.
While some postulate that something is better than nothing, many admit that this was a donation that probably should’ve been made in private, or at least in a less subtle manner than the three rappers showing up dressed for a music video. Migos, as shown below, defended themselves while they were at it.

Despite GS9’s current setback, the streets must be fed
Just over a month ago, it was announced via Twitter that Gs9–Bobby Shmurda, Rowdy Rebel and friends–were teaming up with perhaps their southern counterparts, Migos, for a collaborative mixtape. Since then, things have spiraled downhill for the rambunctious Brooklyn group, and despite the recent announcement from their legal representation that they’ve beaten their Brooklyn gun case, there is a significant set of charges brought about by a special prosecutor that are still pending, including murder charges.
In spite of that fact, the internet has just been blessed with two new records, both of which will appear on the Shmigo Gang mixtape, complete with a special message from Bobby Shmurda himself, who recorded the message from behind bars.
