Having Trouble Finding Your Soulmate? This Might Be The Reason!

“You have to be in touch with your soul, to meet your soulmate.”

Most females reading this quote will automatically respond with a “yaassssssss” but do you really understand what it means?

My problem could be that I read too deeply into pretty much everything, but I believe it’s important to read between the lines. For starters, our good friend Google defines a soulmate as –

A person ideally suited to another as a close friend or romantic partner.

The Urban Dictionary defines a soulmate as –

a person with whom you have an immediate connection the moment you meet.

A soulmate may be better defined as –

The person in which you experience an emotional, mental, and most importantly a spiritual connection with. It also ties into the the belief that there is one specific person for everybody, i.e.: The One.

The soul is to the heart what the mind is to the brain. With that being said, if you believe you think with your brain, you will never understand what it means to find a soulmate.

Now, when I say spiritual it does not have to be in a religious sense, but instead it’s the idea that connections and attractions amongst people are not ones that can’t always be seen, identified or even explained. To be connected with your soul means you have learned and embraced who you are on the inside. (Please be aware that nothing I mention is in the physical sense of the word i.e.: inside.) Genuine characteristics are generated from within as in, something that moves you doesn’t have to literally make you cry, but touches your soul. Once you have connected with that person, behind the make up, way past the mirror, that girl you hide from common folk, your energy will attract that person that sees you in your natural light and your true essence.

Here are 3 steps that will help lead you to your soulmate:

1. Meditation – It may sound cliché but 10-15 minutes out of the 24 hour day to connect with your spirit will help you tap into who you truly are. The moment you “face yourself” and peel back layers you have been avoiding, you’ll be on the right path.

2. Patience – Once you’ve started the journey to learning yourself, understand that anything worth having is worth waiting for. Mr. Right may not be right outside your door after your meditation session, so don’t go assuming every man you like is your soulmate. Timing is important when determining when to let someone in, or when’s the right time to translate your essence into the world.

3. Acceptance – Lastly, accept the connection that (like mentioned earlier) can’t always be seen, identified or even explained. In other words, the best relationships stem from the moments we have no control over. This time, just go with the flow instead for trying to understand every aspect and detail of the situation. Your souls will connect subconsciously and only then is when you’ve found The One.

So yes, after all of that it is true – You have to be in touch with your soul to meet your soulmate.

5 Dairy Milk Alternatives That Aren’t Soy!

For people who don’t like the taste of cow’s milk, are grossed out by the thought of drinking milk from a cow, or are lactose intolerant, this is a list of tasty dairy alternatives… that aren’t soy!

Oat Milk

Oat milk made from the grains of the oatmeal and is extremely good for your health. Not only are they tasty, oats are high in protein, fiber and they are even have healing properties. Yes. These lil’ buddies are super immune boosters! They’re also great for your hair, your skin and help regulate your blood sugar levels and cholesterol.

Easy Oat Milk Recipe:

  • Get yourself a cup of outs.
  • Boil in 2 cups of water.
  • Strain the mixture.
  • There’s your oat milk!

Coconut Milk

Coconut milk might just be the most delicious alternative there is. Super rich in minerals (selenium, copper, iron, zinc, manganese) it is also extremely low in sugar. Coconut does not contain natural sugar fructose, so you do not have to fret about piling on those calories. However, it is not particularly high in calcium, so be sure to get the boost of calcium you need from other non dairy foods (greens, salmon, oranges etc.).

Almond Milk

We’ve all heard of Almond milk and for good reason. Almond milk is high in omega-6 fats and should be added to your diet if you’re struggling to maintain your cholesterol levels.  As with most nuts, they possess high antioxidant levels and well as vitamin E (works wonders for hair and skin). Oh, and it’s very low in calories. A 250ml glass of almond milk only contains 35 calories compared to skimmed cows milk, which is around 92 calories per glass.

Hemp Milk

Hemp milk is created from the seeds of the hemp plant. The seeds and NOT the leaf. There is absolutely zero chance of you catching a high off this controversial milk because it does not contain the chemical THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which is found in Marijuana (you can’t get high without it).

Hemp milk is high in calcium. A single glass 46% of your recommended daily allowance.  It also contains a good amount of amino acids (the 10 essential ones), omega-6, omega-3 thiamin, niacin, magnesium, and potassium.

Hemp sharpens the brain, strengthens the heart and boosts your immune system. You can sweeten the milk with some raw honey to give it a little oomph!

Hazelnut Milk

The delicious hazelnut has many alluring attributes. It is rich in fiber, protein, magnesium, B vitamins, vitamin E, iron, zinc and are packed full of antioxidants. If you’re a coffee drinker like me, the two are a match made in heaven. A much more flavorful brew than with using regular old cow or soy milk.

There is bit of a downside though, Hazelnuts do not have a particularly modest fat content, so go easy.

Easy Hazelnut milk recipe:

  • Soak a cup of raw, un-toasted hazelnuts in bowl for 24 hours.
  • Drain water.
  • Place hazelnuts in a blender with 4 cups of water and blend.
  • Strain the mixture.
  • Use.

Please always seek medical advice before changing your diet.

Ivory Coast Bans Skin Lightening Creams

The complicated history of lightening creams and its dangerous side effects triggers change

After analyzing the medical and psychological factors of lightening creams, more countries are taking active measures to ban the products. The measures taken to embrace an ancient perception of beauty are now being regulated. Medical experts are saying that the active ingredients in skin creams (hydroquinone) may cause cancer, diabetes, severe skin conditions and other diseases. This has triggered some countries such as the Ivory Coast and South Africa to ban the creams.

British consultant dermatologist Justine Kluk told BBC the major concern was over unregulated products, which may contain ingredients such as mercury or excessive amounts of steroids causing dangerous side effects.

The history and psychology of Lightening creams is extensive and touches every part of the world from Europe to Africa to Asia, to the US and South America. Lightening creams have long been popular in Hollywood and the US music industry. Executives encouraged celebrities to lighten up or simply refused to cast brown or dark skinned women in Hollywood. This Aryan standard of beauty traces back to centuries of pure whiteness amongst early Europeans who succumbed to the blond hair blue-eyed ideal of beauty. The notion of even having dark hair and non-blue eyes discounted many Europeans from being considered beautiful by these standards. Furthermore, this idealism was passed on to many cultures.

Hitler’s attempt of a pure Aryan nation was motivated by this belief system and triggered his crusade to exterminate all non –pure whites. The history of the “Barbie Doll”, which represents the standard of beauty to many, was also birthed by Hitler ,who factually ordered blow up dolls to be created as a means of pleasure for servicemen and to specifically combat sexual promiscuity and syphilis by German soldiers who were catching diseases during the war. Hitler ordered that the pint sized blow up dolls be fair with blond hair and blue eyes.

The fair Barbie Doll ideal was passed on through generations without many understanding the history behind Barbie and other notions(hence, Snow White’s “mirror mirror on the wall who’s the fairest one of them all”). This ideal dramatically impacted the perception of beauty in media, television and film.

Both women and some men succumb to using lightening creams to fit into the dysfunctional mode of beauty blindly embraced without historical understanding. Ledisi, Lupita N’yongo and Lauryn Hill both actively spoke about unfairness in the industry toward non-fair-skinned women. Congolese television personality, Mushiya Tshikuka, who stars in WE TV’s upcoming series “Cuttin’ It In The ATL”, says she is so excited that she now has a platform that can allow her to teach women to embrace their black beauty without alterations.

“So many women are under pressure to fit a mode that always excluded us and the measures being taken can be dangerous. I hope to teach women to be comfortable in their own skin and love their blackness.”

People poke fun at me because of my size and tell me I need to lose weight. I am a size 12. It makes me ashamed to hangout with my thinner friends, what should I do?

First, a size 12 is NOT overweight. Women come in all shapes and sizes and all of them portray individual beauty. As long as you are healthy, that’s whats important. A balanced diet and routine exercising is necessary to keep your body in its best shape. Hold your head high and never be ashamed of who you are. However, if you know someone who is obese you should be honest with them but always compassionate. Remember, when you are beautiful on the inside, it shows on the outside.

I have a friend who constantly boasts about herself. She’s always throwing things in my face and brags about her job and material things. How can I tell her that her behavior is unnecessary?

Sometimes you just have to ignore people who overly boast because they may either need the attention or need to compensate for something they don’t have. Just tell your friend you are happy for all of her blessings and anyone who achieves their goals. The good thing is that there’s room for everyone to succeed.

Her Source: MC Lyte To Save The Status Of Females In Hip Hop

After 12-years one of the most iconic emcee’s, female emcee to be exact, MC Lyte is returning with her album LEGEND

With careful analysis of the current situation of Hip Hop culture, we must consider what a MC Lyte LP means for the state of Hip Hop. What does this mean as far as empowerment for females in general? What can we expect from the “Paper Thin” rapper in the 2015 generation? As founder of HipHopSisters.org, MC Lyte redefines the essence of women in music, strives for unity, and embodies empowerment with the album entitled “LEGEND”.

With the release of her first single after an 11-year-hiatus, “Dear John” featuring Common, and “10 Beats”, Lyte pens an open letter to OUR men about never giving up in the hard of times. Social responsibility has been top priority on the rapper’s list, and this track exemplifies the importance of combining music and positivity to move the culture in the right direction.

The Lyte has always been relatable and blunt about the women’s daily struggle, as she did back in ’88 on the classic Lyte As A Rock. Teaming up with the legend Faith Evans for “Last Time” on the new album, MC spits about not settling for less in a relationship. There are plenty of break up and make up songs, but this particular track encourages woman to be strong enough to throw in the towel. With the two powerhouses dishing it to us this way, ladies you have no choice but to listen!

The dynamics of this album are like no other. LEGEND is truly a pause in such a fast pace music industry, where the moment is one that demands your attention and appreciation. MC Lyte is the definition of Hip -Hop history and is the blue print for what females coming up in the game should attempt to replicate or even stand next to.

April 18th is the release of “LEGEND”. Get more information on how to purchase HERE.
