Twitter Critical of ESPY Going to Caitlyn Jenner

Caitlyn Jenner will be honored with the Arthur Ashe award at this years ESPY’s awards, which will take place next month in Los Angeles. The award is given to an individual in sports that displays a level of courage.  Jenner will receive the award for showing the courage to embrace a truth that had been hidden for years, and to embark on a journey that may not only give comfort to those facing similar circumstances, but can also help to educate people on the challenges that the transgender community faces,” ESPYs executive producer Maura Mandt said in a statement announcing the award. ESPN has received criticism for their selection of Jenner for this award.  Fans believe that Lauren Hill is a much more deserving candidate for the award.

Jim Jones Says French Montana Backed Away From a Fight with him in Miami

Jim Jones headed over to Highly Questionable to talk with Dan LeBatard and Bomani Jones about a myriad of topics, including some of the craziest fights he’s ever been in, which led to him telling a pretty interesting story about the time he got into a fist fight with members of Minister Louis Farrakhan‘s security detail.

LeBatard brought up another interesting fight story, which involved Jim Jones getting into an altercation with another rapper in Miami: French Montana. Jones didn’t go into too much detail regarding exactly what happened, but he joked that French is a “lover, not a fighter,” and that he “didn’t want that sauce,” which is presumably his way of saying French wasn’t as ready to fight as he was.

Jones also didn’t indicate exactly when the incident took place, but he put it in the public sphere at an awkward time. French Montana is currently dealing with the loss of his friend and colleague, Chinx, who was gunned down early Sunday morning.

Epic Troll: ESPN Analyst, Michael Smith, Brought his Daughter to Work Today

Michael Smith trolls his colleagues, brings 2-year old daughter Mya to work

Michael Smith‘s ESPN talk show, His & Hers, which he hosts with Jemele Hill, is quickly becoming one of the more popular sports talk segments on ESPN. Probably because of things like this.

Last night, in case you hadn’t heard, Stephen Curry brought his 2-year old daughter, Riley, to the podium with him following the Warriors’ Game 1 victory over the Houston Rockets. She then proceeded to steal the show. Riley interrupted her father, waved flamboyantly at reporters, and even crawled under the table and peeked out from under the tablecloth in an all too cute one-child show. The internet (naturally) erupted in googly-eyed tweets and memes in support of Curry’s adorable daughter.

However, not everyone was amused. A few of ESPN’s biggest names (Skip Bayless, Brian Windhorst) and a Bleacher Report writer, Ric Bucher, took to the airwaves and Twitter to express their discontent with Riley’s stunts, citing the fact that she was merely interfering with an extremely sensitive and tight process: meeting the deadlines of publications.

Michael Smith, however, did not air on the side of his colleagues. He argued with Thompson that there was nothing wrong with the Currys’ 2-man show last night, and pointed out that the analysts that appear to be up in arms on the subject, don’t have 2-year old kids of their own that they have to deal with after a long day. Following that point, Smith beckoned for his own 2-year old daughter, Mya, to join him on the set of, an obvious poke at the #KidsNotAllowed bear. Unlike Riley though, Mya was not ready for her close-up. As soon as Smith got ready to settle in with his daughter in front of the cameras, Mya made it very clear that she preferred to be behind the scenes. You can watch that hilarious clip here.

It ain’t for everybody, as Jay Z would say.

ESPN Reporter Britt McHenry Caught On Tape Berating Towing Company Employee, Told Her To Lose Weight

We all might have been there. You’re out late at dinner with bae having a good time. You leave thinking the nights going to end with you playing Tyrese, or for you youngsters, some Trey Songz, and then it happens. You can’t find your car. That is because it has been towed while you were trying to grab that extra cheesy bread from Red Lobster. This is what happened to ESPN reporter Britt McHenry at a local Chinese restaurant called Hunan in Arlington, Virginia.  When she got to Advanced Towing to pick up her car she was PISSED.

The attendant, named Gina Michelle, told McHenry that she was being recorded. Didn’t look like she cared that much about it. Richard Deitsch, writer for Sports Illustrated, tweeted that ESPN is reviewing the situation,” We are aware of the recent exchange between Britt McHenry and a towing company employee. We are now reviewing the matter with her.” Will update the story as more information is released.

Phil Knights Advisor Explains How Nike Signed Michael Jordan

Sonny Vaccaro explains convincing MJ to sign with Nike on ESPN’s 30 for 30

Sonny Vaccaro is one of the most known leaders in the sneaker industry. He’s that guy who started the big trend of sneaker endorsements for college teams. He has worked with mutilple brands from Adidas to Nike and known as the guy who convinced Michael Jordan to sign with Nike. He sat down with ESPN’s 30 for 30 and explained his involvement in MJ picking the sneaker corporation.

Vaccaro explains that originally MJ wasn’t the huge target for the corporation. Nike wanted to sign Charles Barkley, John Stockton & Hakeem Olajuwon at the time as a combo. Vaccaro stepped in and decided to convince Nike that it would benefit better if they just signed MJ and gave him the full endorsement deal instead of splitting up the money like they would have if signed Barkley, Stockton & Olajuwon. Jordan was leaning toward Adidas but eventually went with the winning team and that was Nike. Air Jordan sales equaled up to $100 million compared to Nike’s overall at $150 million. Jordan was very pleased with his decision to sign with Nike and it obviously benefited for a lifetime, but at first could you believe MJ wasn’t a fan of the red/black color scheme he reffered to the colorway as “the devil’s colors”.  Vaccaro also talked Jordan out of not dissing his team colors. That guy Sonny made MJ a billionaire. ha!
