‘Empire’ Creator Lee Daniels Developing New Show Titled ‘Star’

Fresh off the success of Fox’s hit show Empire, the show’s co-creator and producer Lee Daniels is developing another show tentatively titled Star. The show will be musically themed and centered around a female girl group, which was brought by Fox with a pilot commitment. Daniels will write and executive produce the show, which is set in Atlanta.

Read more about the show below:

On Thursday, Fox bosses Dana Walden and Gary Newman offered up details on the upcoming show, which explores the cutthroat music scene and asks the question, what do you do to rise to the top? Explaining that Daniels “talks a lot about everything from ‘Dreamgirls’ to modern-day girl groups that are manufactured, they are put together, they don’t have an organic reason to be together,” Walden said. “That setup lends to a great soap operatic storytelling machine.”

As for crossover episodes between “Star” and “Empire,” there is a strong possibility, though no plans are set. “It is modern-day music music in Atlanta and ‘Empire’ is modern-day music business in New York,” Walden said. “It’s not inconceivable that the two shows can cross.” via [variety]

America’s favorite family is back

Lee Daniels‘ record-setting drama, Empire, starring Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson, will be returning for a much-anticipated second season, and above, you can watch its latest trailer.

The show that gripped the nation, about a high-profile record label run by a defunct family whose closeted skeletons include murder, sickness, adultery and prison, quickly developed a cult-like fan base, brought so much attention to the music used within the show that the artists became stars in real life, highlighted by their own BET Awards segment.

Terrence is in an orange jumpsuit, the brothers are torn as to whom the family should look to for leadership, and Cookie is wreaking havoc, as expected.

Ludacris Reveals His Role In Season 2 of ‘Empire’

Just when you thought the guest list couldn’t get better..

On Wednesday, a 30 second, dialogue-less teaser for season 2 of Empire was dropped. From the looks of it, Anika and Cookie let bygones be bygones, Jamal’s musical career is taking off, and Cookie visited Lucious while he’s in prison for murder.

Ludacris uploaded a picture on Instagram yesterday and it looks like he’s a correctional officer in the prison that Lucious is held in. Common, Tyrese, and Kelly Rowland are a few of the guests already mentioned to appear on season 2.

Ludacris is no stranger to the acting world. He has co-starred in Crash and the Fast and Furious series.

Empire is scheduled to premiere September 23rd on FOX.

Kelly Rowland Joins the ‘Empire’ Cast

Kelly Rowland will make an appearance on the second season of FOX’s smash hit Empire.

Throughout the past few weeks Empire has announced a number of A-listers that are said to appear on season 2, including, Lenny Kravitz, Alicia Keys, and Chris Rock just to name a few. The most recent addition to that guest list is Kelly Rowland.

According to E! News Kelly will play Lucious Lyon’s mother in a flashback. For those who keep up with the show, you know how crucial flashbacks are and how frequently they appear. This time, we’ll get a glimpse all the way into Lucious’ childhood which probably plays a huge role on his present day character.

Below is a photo of Kelly Rowland and the Empire writers in what appears to be a meeting and they look pretty stoked:

Taraji P. Henson Hospitalized on Friday, Says She Was “Doing Too Much”

Don’t worry, Cookie is okay

Friday evening, via an Instagarm post, news broke that Taraji P. Henson had been hospitalized from what looks like a bout of exhaustion, judging from her caption.

taraji hospital

God has a way of saying “you’re doing too much!” “SAT DOWN SOMEWHERE”. I’m listening Father!!! I am taking several seats!!! Don’t worry y’all I’m a tough cookie! HA! I will be just fine. She appears to be in good spirits, so there doesn’t appear to be much to worry about here. Take it easy “Cookie.” Speaking of which, after ridiculous cancellation rumors, Empire, the FOX drama Henson stars in with Terrence Howard, is set to return for Season 2 on September 23. Can’t wait.

[Spoiler Alert] Cookie Has a New Love Interest On ‘Empire’ Season 2

It seems like season 2 of Empire is going to be focusing a lot on Cookie Lyon.

When we last left off on Empire, Cookie was obviously still in love with Luscious after he left her twisting in the wind but she finally came to the conclusion that he’s no good for her. Then, the security guard Malcolm DeVeaux played by Derek Luke, wanted to put his hand in the cookie jar but Luscious nipped that in the bud once he found out.

Now, the latest news on the second season of Empire suggests that Cookie will have a new love interest played by Adam Rodriguez. Rodriguez will play a former EMT who an unnamed producer described as, “a smooth-talking concert promoter with expert hustler skills.”

Rodriguez starred alongside Taraji P. Henson in Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself, in case you’re wondering where you know him from.

So many teases are revealing a lot more drama is in stored for the Lyons plus a bunch of iconic musical guests.

“Empire” Season 2 airs Sept. 23 at 9 p.m.  on Fox.
