This past Sunday, Pittsburgh Steelers back up quarterback Bruce Gradkowski dislocated a finger trying to recover a fumble while playing against the Green Bay Packers. Moving swiftly, the Steelers invited veteran QB Mike Vick to the team facilities for a physical. With the media catching wind of this, a concerned Steelers launched a petition on Change.org, urging fellow fans to dissuade the franchise from signing Vick due to his stint in prison on federal dog fighting charges.
Michael Vick is a convicted felon and no-class piece of crap. He is also a terrible QB which is why he has no team. Let’s united as Steeler fans – as NFL fans – and stop him from playing on our team! Steelers fans united! Sign to keep Vick from ever wearing the coveted Steelers uniform!!
Needing 10,000 signatures, the petition currently sits at a little over 9,100. But all of this was too late as the Steelers confirmed that they have inked a deal with Vick for one year. With QB Landry Jones currently on their depth chart, Vick will most likely be competing with him for the back up role to starter Ben Roethlisberger.
Vick ,34,has seen a decline in statistics and suitors in recent years as he has played for the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets in the past 2 seasons. Having been injury prone throughout his career, his inability to remain healthy was the eventual cause of him losing his starting gig to Geno Smith during his tenure with the Jets.
Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin:
Obviously we’re sensitive to those potential things but we are going to do our due diligence. Rest assured that we’ve done that, but rest assured he’s done a lot since he’s gone through some of the things he’s gone through and his track record at this point in that regard speaks for itself.
He most certainly won’t be wearing his trademark Number 7 – Rocko Rathon (@Rocko_CNK)
One of the more prolific pass rushers of the past decade, Osi Umenyiora has decided to hang up the cleats, and in doing so will sign a 1 day contract with the New York Giants this coming Wednesday to retire officially as a member of the G-Men. Drafted by the Giants in 2003, Umenyiora was one of NY’s most feared pass rushers alongside Michael Strahan, Justin Tuck, and most recently Jason Pierre-Paul.
Osi spent his last two seasons playing for the Atlanta Falcons, which saw his production on the field decline dramatically. Case in point, he tallied a mere 12 tackles and 2.5 sacks in all 16 games with the Falcons in 2014. This is a far cry from the numbers he put up as Giant, racking up 435 tackles, 35 forced fumbles, 14 fumble recoveries and 85 sacks, putting him 4th on the Giants all-time sacks list.
In his 11 year career, Osi definitely had tremedous highlights such as leading the NFL in sacks during the 2005 season with 14.5, being selected to two Pro Bowls, named to two All-Pro teams, and most notably snagging two Super Bowl rings with the NY Giants. Umenyiora pondered the idea of possibly making a return, with the Giants showing the most interest, but he ultimately decided his time on the field had run its course.
Won’t be surprised if we see him commentating on the sideline. Congrats on a great career! – Rocko Rathon (@Rocko_CNK)
After spending 14 years in a Indianapolis Colts uniform, future Hall Of Famer Reggie Wayne has inked a one year contract with the New England Patriots. The news came as little surprise considering that it was revealed that Wayne had visited the Patriots facilities this morning (August 24), for a physical. Wayne became a free agent during the offseason when his contract expired with the Colts.
Though he has put up some gaudy statistics throughout his career playing alongside Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison in Indy, his numbers have waned in recent years, mostly due to frequent injuries. Ironically enough, the writing was on the wall for his departure after this past seasons AFC Championship game which paired the Colts against the eventual Super Bowl Champion Patriots. Wayne played the entire game without a single targeted throw in his direction.
The 36-year old veteran will be full of work as the Patriots receiving corp is currently reeling with injuries to Julian Edelman, Brandon Lafell and Aaron Dobson. With Tom Brady’s current legal dispute with the NFL still lingering, only time will tell if Wayne’s addition to New England will be impactful this season.
New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick
He’s certainly had a great career and has done a lot of things for the Colt organization, primarily playing on the left but then in more recent years being moved around to playing on the right and also in some slot situations,” Belichick said Monday on WEEI. “I think he has a lot of versatility and obviously he has a lot of experience, so we’ll just have to see how it goes.

Lil Wayne has remained in the headlines all throughout 2015. Whether it is his current legal dispute with Cash Money Records, on again off again beef with Young Thug, or his “Free Weezy Album,” there is not a week that goes by without a Weezy siting on the web. With that said, Wayne has not be vocal on the interview front, being very selective as to whom he gives his time to.
Today, Lil Wayne made a return visit to ESPN’s First Take, where he joined Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless to discuss today’s hot topics in the sports world, but also delved into the entertainment foray as he spoke on the N.W.A. biopic.
A few take aways from the interview are that Wayne is still a die hard Green Bay Packers fan, he is apathetic toward Tom Brady‘s “Deflate-gate” situation, and still believes Kobe Bryant is one of the best players in the NBA currently.

7) Stephen Curry dances on stage with Rapper Lecrae
This has to be Steph Curry’s 10th time on this list, but when it’s your time, it’s just your time. The Golden State Warriors’ superstar was able to get on stage with the Christian hip-hop artist Lecrae as he performed the song “I’m Turnt.” Curry wound up in front of the crowd, but he began as a part of it.
6) Kelvin Benjamin’s injury cripples the Panthers’ season
Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin will miss the entire 2015 season with a torn ACL. Benjamin was making a cut in a joint practice with the Miami Dolphins where the injury occurred.
#Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin was primed for a big year, an emerging talent. Now out for the year with an ACL tear. Brutal.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 19, 2015
Benjamin was coming off a great rookie year where he had 78 receptions and over a thousand yard receiving. This a crushing blow for a team that only won 7 games last season but won a division title. , it will be Replace a guy like Benjamin is nearly impossile because he basically is there only wide receiver on the team. We can hear Cam Newton’s fantasy draft stock falling from way over here.
5) Iman Shumpert is still rapping
Cleveland Cavilers guard Iman Shumpert is back on the beat. Now for some reason Shumpert gets more pup about rapping then another NBA player who is just straight up better than him, Dame Dollar. Yet the Shumpert seems to just working to get on the level that classic NBA level that Shaq reached back in the 90’s. Shumpert’s new song 290 West talks about the struggles of the fame that he receives. Not that Shumpert signed a 40 million dollar contract extension with Cleveland and his girlfriend is Teyana Taylor. Seems likes he’s has a lot of problems. Listen to the song below.
4) Sammy just styling on them
The Bills have everything a team would need to get to the Super Bowl. Great defense, outstanding weapons on offense, and an experience head coach. Now if the NFL would have them drag a jug machine out there to throw the ball, then the Bills might have a chance. The Bills are having an interesting time trying to decide who will be throwing the ball to star receiver Sammy Watkins. Watkins looks to be getting prepared for whoever is throwing it his way.

3) Madden released the weirdest movie trailer of All-time
On Friday, the folks over at EA Sports dropped a bizarre, hilarious and utterly insane trailer for this season’s installation of the Madden franchise.
Starring the likes of Dave Franco, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, a beautifully mustached Rob Gronkowski, a pissed off Rex Ryan, a bowler hat-wearing Antonio Brown, a plane-diving Julio Jones and, perhaps most impressively, an Al Pacino-impersonating Colin Kaepernick (“Whoo-ah!).
2) Usian Bolt is still really really fast
Usain Bolt narrowly beat rival Justin Gatlin to the gold medal in the 100-metre final of the IAAF World Championships on Sunday, finishing the race with his best time of the season: 9.79 seconds. Gatlin seemed to hold his lead until the final 15 metres, when Bolt shifted gears and beat his rival on the line. This was the first time that the American was favored to defeat the fast man in the world, but some believe wasn’t able to live up to that pressure. Watch the race and try not to blink.
1) When is the line drawn
According to reports, A judge in McLennan County, Texas, sentenced former Baylor and Boise State defensive end Sam Ukwuachu to 180 days in county jail Friday after the 22-year-old was found guilty of second-degree sexual assault from an October 2013 incident. According to ESPN’s Max Olson Ukwuachu will also be placed on a 10-year probation. As disgusting as this story is, it seems as if the situation could have been avoided.
A report on Thursday by Jessica Luther and Dan Solomon for Texas Monthly. Luther and Solomon detailed the sexual assault allegations leveled against Ukwuachu by a former member of the Baylor women’s soccer team, stemming from an Oct. 19, 2013, incident. Ukwuachu was subsequently indicted June 25, 2014.
But now the conversation has shifted to who should take the blame. Ukwuachu’s former head coach Chris Peterson says that he informed Baylor Head coach Art Briles of his troubled past. “After Sam Ukwuachu was dismissed from the Boise State football program and expressed an interest in transferring to Baylor, I initiated a call with coach Art Briles,” Petersen said in the statement. “In that conversation, I thoroughly apprised Coach Briles of the circumstances surrounding Sam’s disciplinary record and dismissal.” Now Briles has refuted those comments, saying that it simply wasn’t discussed.
