Quick Dry Nail Techniques

Sitting around and waiting for nail polish to dry and be a tedious affair. You can’t touch anything. You aren’t quite sure where to put your hands and if you get an itch somewhere and try to strategically scratch, you can mess up all of your meticulous work in just seconds!

We want to save you guys the pain of having to go through such an infuriating experience ever again.  Here are some easy techniques to get your vanish to dry super fast!

Grab your hairdryer. Set it to its coolest setting and gently blow your nails. Be VERY careful when using hairdryers or fans or even blowing on your nails… you could end up with those pesky air bubbles and have to start over!

Ice Water

Fill a bowl with ice-cold water. The colder the better, then carefully submerge your fingertips into the water. Your beloved polish dries fastest in colder environments, so help the process along by creating one.

Stick Your Hands In The Freezer

When I’m desperate, I stick my hands in the freezer for a few minutes. Yes, you heard me right, the freezer! As you can imagine, it is super cold, so you cant keep them in there for more than a few minutes at a time, but it works.

Cooking Oil Spray

Once you’ve added your top coat, give it a little spray of cooking oil or dip your fingertips in a bowl of 10ml or so of sunflower oil for a couple of seconds. Remove your hands and carefully wash fingertips with water.

Quick Dry Nail Polish

After all’s said and done, if you really don’t have the patience to be sticking your fingers in bowls of ice water, freezers, cooking oils and such, just invest in some quick drying polishes. Most brands claim to dry within no more than 60 seconds and usually do if you add it on in thin layers.  Lathering varnish on too thick will take forever to dry and will dry slowly even if you stick your hands in the freezer afterwards.

“I Became Comfortable Hiding” Alicia Keys Shares Her Revelation

Legendary musician and feminist Alicia Keys has a revelation!

Undoubtedly, Alicia Keys is a woman of many attributes; immaculate beauty, high standards, and extreme talent. It’s hard to believe that a woman of such grace had struggles coming into a woman, but she shares her story on a recent blog post and it’s absolutely moving. The mother of two explains how she struggled with acceptance, and the battle of finding herself at a young age. A story that millions of young woman are experiencing today.

I definitely started hiding when I got old enough to walk down my NY streets alone. I started to notice a drastic difference in how men would relate to me if I had on jeans, or if I had on a skirt, or if my hair was done pretty. I could tell the difference, I could feel the animal instinct in them and it scared me. I didn’t want to be talked to in that way, looked at in that way, whistled after, followed. And so I started hiding. I chose the baggy jeans and timbs, I chose the ponytail and hat, I chose no makeup, no bright color lipstick or pretty dresses. I chose to hide. Pieces at a time. Less trouble that way.

Keys expressed that still to this today she hides from excessive attention. Hiding her beauty, her figure, and her voice at times because that’s how she’s dealt with it for years. This stifles us women, when we hide the very assets that God has blessed us with. To belittle ourselves and hold back those very distinct characteristics that set us apart from everyone else. In the blog post, Alicia explains the moment that she came to grips with who she is and she chooses not to hide any longer.

You are allowed to be smart
You are allowed to be beautiful
You are allowed to be radical and have strong thoughts that others might not agree with
You are allowed to be tough
You are allowed to be sexy
You are allowed to be bold
You are allowed to be shapely
You are allowed to be kind
You are allowed to be yourself!!

Keys encourages every woman to live out there 28,000 days like there is no tomorrow. Embrace who you are and live your life vibrantly. Read her full article here.

Kim Kardashian Shuts Down ‘Fake Pregnancy’ Rumors With Nude Selfie

That Kim K reign just won’t let up

Just over 2 years after the birth of her daughter and first child, North West, Kim Kardashian announced that she and husband Kanye West were pregnant with their second child, a boy. As is the case with a large majority of high-profile celebrities, fake pregnancy rumors began rolling in, reminiscent of Beyonce‘s pregnancy–there are actually Blue Ivy truthers that honestly believe Beyonce never carried her daughter, it’s quite disgusting. Beyonce, however, didn’t address any of those rumors. But that’s not the Kardashian way now, is it.

Less than an hour ago, Kim K took to Instagram to put an end to the murmurs, by way of a nude selfie. That’s right, Mrs. Kardashian West is showing off her baby bump, which is accompanied by nary a thread. Happy Tuesday, folks.

Her Source | Quick Fix Home Remedies

DIY Home Remedies that may help that problem.

We all have some things that we are embarrassed or too humiliated to share about ourselves that perhaps we want to change. We go to certain extents to change these things whether is our hair down to our toes.  We waste tons of money (including me) in spas and salons without even going to our own kitchen closets and bathrooms. All these household products laying around that can help improve our beauty and I’m here to share.

  1. Dark Body Zones  (1 Spoon of baking soda, 1/2 spoon of hydrogen peroxide and 3-4 drops of lemon) Mix all into a bowl till it creates an off white liquid and apply to dark body spots : armpits, elbows, knees, inner thighs, etc. Wait 20 minutes and then rinse. This should be done 3 times a week consistently and before you know it you should see results! (1 block of pure carbonated magnesium and 2-3 drops of peroxide 30) Mix all into a bowl till it creates a paste. This should only be applied with a brush to your armpits for 3 minutes! This should be done twice or minimum once a month for it is super strong.
  2. Hair Growth/Shine  (1/2 cup of beer, 2 pieces of aloe, 2 spoons of olive oil) Combine into a blender and liquefy. Make sure your hair is dry and prior to washing apply this liquid into your hair and cover with a shower cap for 20 minutes. After rinse and continue to wash and style as usual. You should do this once a week and watch as the results roll in for that beautiful shiny hair and flow. You massage this into the scalp for 20 minutes and rinse then wash as usual. This too will help in growth as for it will strengthen the hair follicle.

Organic/Natural Body Products You Need!

There are so many chemicals and other icky ingredients added to our beauty products, so it’s refreshing to know that there are many quality brands available who try to keep it as natural and/or organic as they can.

Here are some products that are either 100% Organic or Natural, or they make an effort to pack their products full of as much natural goodness as possible. You don’t need to grab all of them, but you’d benefit from owning just one or two. They’re that good!

Burt’s Bees

Burt’s Bees has to be one of my favorite body product brands. Admittedly, it’s not 100% natural – but they come pretty close. They use a wide range of organic ingredients ranging from Beeswax to Clary Sage to Chamomile, Aloe to Pomegranate, Honey and Willow Bark, essentials oils and product lines for all of the family to enjoy, including baby. They smell great. Feel great and the peppy packaging is pleasing to the eye.

As far a price goes, Burt’s Bees are completely affordable. For a scrumptious flavored moisturizing lip balm (Vanilla, Grapefruit, Mango Butter Acai Berry and more), you’re looking at spending around $4.  Body lotions fall into the $10 bracket and gift sets start from $5 for baby right up to about $55.

Shea Moisture

 shea moisture

Using a wide range of certified organic and ethically sourced ingredients, which includes Wild Orchid, Myrrh, Green Tea, Hibiscus and Argan Oil. So, great for you and great for the environment! They have a few vegan friendly products too.

A bar of African Black Soap will cost you $5; body lotion around $10 and a hair masque is priced at around $13.

Three things to note about Shea Moisture:

  • Their main ingredient in most of their products is Shea Butter (as the name suggests).
  • They cater for all of the family
  • They’re a black owned business

Virgin Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is my all time favorite organic body product (followed closely by Tea Tree oil and Olive Oil).  It smells absolutely incredible! It’s does wonders for your hair and for your skin. It has healing properties and it’s also one of the best oils to cook with! Usually the kind you see on the shelf is refined coconut oil. This means that it has been refined, bleached and treated to reduce potential bacteria in the coconut meat. It does not have the lush coconut aroma and it can prove to be a little too greasy when using on the skin. Plus, if it’s been stripped of most of its goodness, why would you want to use it anyway?

Virgin Coconut oil is unrefined. It’s organic and is processed completely chemical free.  However, it’s not cheap but it is usually reasonably priced. You’d be hard pressed to find a decent tub of Virgin Coconut oil for less than $10. Not saying that it can’t be done. But it’s worth the extra few dollars. You don’t need to slab it on when using on the body. A tub will last you a decent length of time.

Jane Carter Solution

Finding the right hair products can be tricky. My hair is particularly thick, and finding products that do not dry my hair out completely or leave it feeling heavy and greasy can be a struggle. Just as we feed our bodies, we should feed our hair and that means even when we find a product that we like, it’s healthy to switch it up once in a while and try something new. I mean, you wouldn’t feed your body the same meal day in, day out for years, would you?

A black owned business; Jane Carter Solution products cater for all types of hair. With products like, Jojoba Oil, Lavender Oil, Tea Tree and Peppermint, Jane Carter products are packed with the best that nature has to offer they are also vegan and eco friendly.

Their Moisturizing Nourishing Shampoo is a mere $8. A 6oz tub of Jane Carter Solution’s Twist & Lock will set you back $22, and it doesn’t cause any build up so it’s well worth it!

Olive Oil

Just like the Virgin Coconut Oil, this is a great all rounder. The cheapest of the bunch, you can purchase a bottle of olive oil for just a few dollars. You can use it in your hair and on your skin. It also makes a great carrier oil to blend your potent essential oils.

Run out of shaving cream? No worries. If you’ve got a bottle of olive oil to hand, you can use it as a safe substitute.  You can also use to remove your make up or add it to your bath for super soft skin.

The Natural Market

The Natural Market is a homemade, organic company who offer 100% natural products. Using an array of natural oils and butters, cater to even the most ardent purists when it comes to going organic.

“Buying organic when possible is always the best choice because it is healthiest for your body. Our skin is the largest organ in our body and absorbs more than 80% of what we put on it. So if you’re putting toxins on it, you’re making yourself toxic. When someone chooses to buy organic they are making the decision to live an overall healthier lifestyle however the first step is to care for your body on the inside as well as out. Its makes no sense to use organic bath and beauty products when you have not adopted the lifestyle of clean eating and healthy exercise.

Right now the organic is consider a fad because people believe that everyone is doing it. However I believe that it is a overall rise in the consciousness of humanity. Now more than ever, we have more GMO produced ingredients in our foods and products in support of yielding higher profits. People now know that it is important to take of yourself as well as the earth. More than likely, when companies like ours package organic products we are doing so in a organic manner, meaning the entire process from the beginning to the end is as sustainable possible which in return is better for the earth as well as your body.”Victoria, TNM Founder

British Nail Polish Brands For Your Beauty Bag

Nail polish, paint, or varnish… Whatever you like to call it, it’s a core part of most of our beauty regimes. If you love to match your polish with each outfit or just love they way they look all glammed up in your selfies, then like me, you’re always on the lookout for new brands or shades.

Here are a few brands from across the pond in the UK to primp up your summer collection!

Nails Inc.

I discovered my love for Nails Inc. hunting for nail polish on eBay one day.  A small 10ml bottle arrived as part of a bundle of polish I’d purchased, and I’ve been in love with it ever since. You will too!

Nails Inc. is quintessentially British. So much so, that every single bottle/shade is whimsically named after iconic places around London Town. Lily Road, Regent Park, Notting Hill Carnival and Piccadilly Circus are all glorious shades.

Nails Inc. is my guilty pleasure brand. A single bottle can set you back about $20, but the finish is flawless and you’d be hard pressed not to find a shade you dig. They frequently run specials on their website, slashing some items by 75% at times, so be sure to sign up to their mailing list so you don’t miss out on a super sale!

Rococo Nail Apparel

A family business, Rococo Nail Apparel was started by two sisters, Ange and Vernice Walker. Out of all of the brands, this varnish is slightly more difficult to get your hands on. You wont find this brand waltzing through your local mall.  Very few distributors have the fortune of stocking Rococo, but if you do somehow manage to get your hands on a bottle, you won’t look back!

The bottles are tall and rather unassuming looking. To be honest, they don’t scream to be bought, unlike some of the others and you are looking at spending around $16-17 a pop. Rococo is so highly regarded; designers often use it at London Fashion week on their beloved models so you’re in good hands here.

Try their Snob Crème varnish from the Powder Room collection.

Ciaté London has been around since 2009, founded by Clare Knight, a well-respected figure in the fashion industry.

They come in adorable rectangular bottles donning the logo. The bottles are sometimes kitted out with a tiny, black ribbon tied around its neck and with cool names like, 3am Girl, Boudoir and Cocktail Dress, the labels serve as mini hints at where and when you should be wearing a particular color if you’re not a natural born Fashionista (which I am not).

A 13.5ml bottle will run you about $15. But, if you’re a bargain seeker like me, head to the site and grab one of the sale bottles, which are often slashed by 50%.

Barry M

Founded in London in 1982, Barry M is now the leading color cosmetics company in Britain.  They aren’t just a nail care brand; they do offer a wide range of beauty products from lipsticks to eye shadow and foundation.

They offer an extensive palate of nail paints from the conservative classic styles to the jazziest, funkiest of colors. Spending time at the Barry M section of the pharmacy (mainly Superdrug by me), is my idea of bliss. I’ve lost countless hours mulling over new colors and they always have cool specials running i.e. Buy Two, Get One Free (which almost always means that I need to get myself at least six bottles!). If you have an unsteady hand (as I do) Barry M brushes are perfect for you because they are quite slender, making it easy to get right around the edges while avoiding huge gloopy drops of paint dripping all over the place.

Try their Gelly Hi Shine gives you a wonderful, think coat of polish with a rich shine.  The Speedy Quick Dry takes just seconds to dry so you can literally paint and go! Sparkly, glittery paints. Two-tone paints. You name it, it’s here and at a bargain of a price.

Barry M is absolutely my fav polish when I’m on a tight budget. Costing anything from a couple of pounds (roughly $4 and up). Barry M products are cruelty free, so they don’t test them out on lil’ Bambi or Thumper!

Beauty Tips Every Woman Should Know

It’s the expectation that every woman should be flawlessly beautiful and never have an off day that adds that extra stress of making sure everything from head to toe is on point. And there’s no way of taking the easy way out of beauty or that 45 minute beauty regime you go through everyday to make sure you are a dime.

So to make your life a little easier, here are a few beauty tips that every women can take note of and add to their already existing regimen. These are just a few beauty tips that can help with every aspect of upkeep from hair, nails, and skin.

You Nailed It:

-If you struggle with soft brittle nails that lack strength, try applying excess eye cream on cuticles to aid in strengthening your nails and help with hardening them.

-To make your manicure last longer apply a thin top coat of clear polish every 2 days and add a thicker layer to the corner of your nails where chipping usually starts.

Face Beat To Capacity

– Never assume that makeup can fix all skin problems! You need to make sure you’re taking care of your skin underneath your make up. So be sure to exfoliate and moisturize so that your skin is effortlessly radiant underneath the beat.

– To make a zit go away faster don’t dare try to pop it or pick at it, the bacteria on your hands will only make it worst. Try the old school remedy of drying it out with toothpaste or rubbing alcohol.

– To reduce lifeless and dulling hair use a sulfate free shampoo that’s sure to add moisture and hydration.

-Go for a trim every 6-8 weeks to assure that dead ends don’t take over and make your hair look unhealthy.
