Mac Miller Breaks Down “100 Grandkids” With Genius

It’s been two years since Mac Miller‘s last studio album, but his latest project GO:OD AM proves he hasn’t missed a beat. The album’s lead single “100 Grandkids” is a wellspring of witty metaphors and introspective lyrics, some of which Mac broke down in a new interview with Genius. With lines like “What’s a God without a little O.D.?” and “You put the ‘ho’ in honest baby” his commentary is as rewarding as the the lines themselves. Enjoy the video above and check out the lyrics with annotations from Mac Miller himself below.

Joe Budden Talks “SlaughterMouse” With Genius; Speaks Candidly About Relationship With Eminem

Say what you will about Joe Budden; he’s probably heard it all. A veteran whose career spans a dozen years, and which has straddled both mainstream success and underground dominance — namely as member of the hyper-lyrical supergroup Slaughterhouse — Budden’s story is quite a tale. Though his tumultuous love life has taken the spotlight in recent years, the Jersey vet instead spoke candidly with Genius‘ new manager of artist relations, Rob Markman, about Shady Records /Interscope label head, Eminem.

During their nearly 10 minutes talk, Budden and Markman scrutinize “Slaughtermouse”, a track off of Joe’s upcoming third studio album, All Love Lost. The track has already been labeled as a “diss track” to some and to others an open letter, while Joe, himself, refer’s to it as his version of Em’s foreboding Marshall Mathers LP hit, “Stan”. The discourse spans several topics, including: Joe and Em sharing a similar path such as addiction to drugs and lover’s quarrels with their respective significant others, Joe surmising that Em’s superstardom would mean success for himself and Slaughterhouse, and Joe weighing in on how impactful “My Name Is” would be if it were released in 2015.

Check out the video for yourself above, as well as the lyrics to “Slaughtermouse” with verified annotations by Joe below. Also be sure to see Joe Budden and Rob Markman live, as panelists during SOURCE360, which kicks off today and goes on through Sunday — get information and tickets here.

Apple’s iOS 9 Features New Emojis, Including the Middle Finger

Update (Sept. 17): The new emojis are only available to Beta users, as it will be part of the iOS 9.1 update. The link to become a beta user and get it now is here

Gone are the days of archaic emoticons, using a colon for eyes and parenthesis for a mouth. “emojis” have become a staple in modern day conversation. Where one word, or phrase have been used to describe a feeling, activity, etc. emojis have replaced them — but only to a certain degree.

After several updates and additions, including an multiracial skin tone modifier, the emoji faithful continue to gripe about the lack of several obvious additions. This has lead to some improvisational uses for existing emojis (cactus as a middle finger, and eggplant as…well you know.)

Now Apple will welcome over 250 new emojis, including an eye rolling smiley, a mortorcycle, several nation’s flags and finally, the middle finger.

The new emojis are available right now for those who update to iOS 9.1 Beta, exclusively available for Apple users who have signed up for their Beta program which you can apply to here. The Beta program also includes the forthcoming OS X “El Capitan” operating system for Macbook users, ahead of its September 30 launch date. The official iOS 9 update is also now available for iPhone and iPad which will feature the new emojis as well.

Downloading the official iOS 9 update is simple:

Go to Settings > General > Software Update, then follow the on screen prompts.

Check out some of the new emojis above and the other features you can expect from iOS9 here.

Casey Veggies Talks Playing Music for Jay Z, Being Attracted to “Classy Nerds” and More with Genius

Casey Veggies is set to close out the summer with his upcoming debut album, Live & Grow on September 25. The Inglewood thoroughbred, who has maintained a considerable buzz over several years and several mixtapes, recently went on Genius to talk about where he’s at now and where he’s headed next in a slew of annotations. In them he discussed a range of topics,  from his preference in women to playing his album in its entirety for his label head, Jay Z.

On his type of woman:

I like a mix of simple and classy. I like the outgoing type and the classy nerd. Maybe she wears glasses.

On working with Dej Loaf on “Tied Up”:

DeJ speaks for the ladies! Her hook opened a lot of girls’ eyes up to the record and they gave the song a shot. We are both young artists in the game so we felt very tied to the message of the song.

On Jay Z’s favorite song from his album:

I’ve been managed by Roc Nation for about two or three years now but never met Jay. We both were in the office recently and he listened to my whole album. I thought he would be like “Alright, play a few, and then I have to go to a meeting.” But he listened to the whole thing. An hour and a half. He said “Wonderful” was his favorite song.
When I was six or seven years old my Dad was Jay Z’s bodyguard. He’s in the Girls, Girls, Girls video!

Jae Tips Professes His Love For Sneakers In The Video For “Shoe Love”

Jae Tips loves sneakers. Anyone who knows of the Bronx upstart — perhaps even those who’ve known him before his now-blossoming rap career — knows Tips is the unequivocal epitome of a “sneakerhead” (and with a mixtape entitled Hypebeast one would hope so). So, it’s only right an emcee as deeply entrenched and as well respected in the sneaker culture as Tips, avow his love for kicks. And that’s exactly what he does in his video for “Shoe Love”.

Tips spits over a sample of Anita Baker‘s “Sweet Love”, produced by Dizzy Banko, that will be famliar to fans of Drake and MF DOOM alike. The Bronx rhymesayer gives us a glimpse into what a day in his Air Jordan 2 “Don Cs” is like, which consists of making runs to resell sneakers throughout the city on CitiBikes, working at a retail sneaker store and hitting everyone’s favorite East Village ice cream shop, “Mikey Likes It Ice Cream”. He also flashes back to the days, and the sneakers that sparked his unwavering love for footwear.

Stance has entrenched themselves as the premier company when it comes to high-quality, yet stylish socks. Already highly-favored amongst luminaries in the world of sports, Stance has officially announced that they will set their sights on street fashion with their “Anthem” collection.

According to Stance “Anthem highlights designs that appeal to the sleek and sophisticated artists and curators, the skeptics and tastemakers that set trends in the streets of the world’s style capitals.” In fact, to celebrate the launch, they’ve inducted notable tastemaker, Big Sean, into their Punk and Poet family, which has also featured the likes of Rihanna and Allen Iverson in the past. “Stance socks are the best socks I’ve ever worn, so I was excited to have the chance to collaborate with them and be a part of the “Punk and Poet” family. Stance makes wearing socks an experience rather than a routine,” the Dark Sky Paradise rapper explained.

The new line will feature black and white designs as well as neon spray paint patterns, releasing as seasonal collections as well as several unique styles.  Their Legends collection, for example is slated to drop in October, and will feature the late Notorious B.I.G. and Muhammad Ali.

Stance’s Anthem collection is available now, via their website  as well as Packer ShoesUbiq, and Conveyer.
