The Things We Learned in Sports June 28th-July 4th

Lets be honest, it’s been a pretty dry week in sports. Football is a few months away, Lebron is expected to stay in Cleveland (we hope), and baseball……is baseball. Despite the dry spell in sports,  moves and plays have been made to impact the seasons that are up coming. Off-season moves are like getting the ingredients for a soup. If you get the wrong items, you can end up with a Knicks’ broth. Here are the things we learned in sports this week.

7. Lakers and Knicks are left holding the bag

You know you had a terrible off-season when the two starting centers for each team are Robin Lopez and reportedly Roy Hibbert. The New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers now have to realize that players do not want to spend their time on a team that isn’t close to winning a title. In the Knicks case, they lost out on big man Greg Monroe to the Milwaukee Bucks. Name another time in history Milwaukee beat New York in anything? For the Lakers, literally no one signed with them. They had to trade for guy who looks like the mon-stars from Space Jams stole his powers. Kobe looks happy though. This can’t go well for Hibbert.

6. Real Spurs Never Die

LaMarcus Aldridge
LaMarcus Aldridge

For the last twenty years, the Spurs have been the most consistent team in the NBA. Making the playoffs 19 of the 20 years, and winning 5 NBA. The combination of Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, Tim Duncan, and Greg Popovich have been the model that all teams in the NBA have tried to copy. Even when father time comes knocking at the door the team builds up. It is reported that free agent blue chipper LaMarcus Aldridge will be joining the spurs on a 4 year/80 million dollar max contract. This comes off re-signing Kawhi Lenorad and Danny Green all under the age of 30. This really might be the start of something special.

5. Floyd Mayweather takes a lost

Floyd “Money” Mayweather is expected to be stripped of his WBO welterweight title due to a lack of compliance. Mayweather  defeated Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao on May 2 to win the title. But ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael reports that the World Boxing Organization officially decided to take back its 147-pound belt from the undefeated Mayweather.

4. White boy can play

If you old enough to remember, Jason Williams was the white Kyrie Irving, don’t believe me, google him. Irving might have to go against his son in a few years. A YouTube video is going around of 13-year-old Jaxon Williams’ breaking ankles like his daddy did back in the day. He has already been dubbed as “White Chocolate Jr.” Watch as the young Williams’ makes these kids dance.

3. Tom Brady got the G card from the Migos

Yea it’s the off-season, and now you got Tom Brady getting passing from the Migos. TMZ sports reports that the Migos have given the G-pass for “dancing to his music.” Brady  can now run up in the bando and trap until his heart is content. According to TMZ, Quavo and Takeoff  were out in L.A. recently when we asked the Hotlanta boys how they felt about Brady turning up to their hit Handsome & Wealthy at the Patriots Super Bowl ring party. Watch as Tom Brady turns up to the “YRN” music.

2. What the hell is wrong with Iman

Iman Shumpert got a 4 year/ 40 million dollar extension from the Cleveland Cavaliers this offseason and decided to spend none of that money on a hair cut. Shumpert has become know for his high top fade, but TMZ sports has learned that he didn’t want that to be his only look. There are no words to describe what type of mess Iman has put on top of his head, but hey it is the NBA off-season.

1. Forget Football, Basketball is were the money is.

Ok does the name Kosta Koufos mean anything to anyone. Didn’t think so, ok he is a 4 year NBA vet who just got 33 million dollars over the next 4 years. The Sacramento Kings, who are battling the Knicks for the worst franchise over the last decade, have signed the big man away from the Memphis Grizzles. His career averages are 5.2 points and 5.3 rebounds with 0.8 blocks. This has to be looked at as the new NBA. where guys who haven’t won any major awards as an individual or a team are getting these M’s. LaMarcus Aldrige just signed a contract that is only 10 million dollars more then Kris Middleon and 5 million less than Draymod Green. What is scare about all these signings is the fact that the cap is going to go up in the NBA after next season. Better work on your handle and jump shoot, because the NBA is where the money is.
